Rent increase: official form and 30 days to contest
Updated on October 24, 2026
Article 269d of the Code of Obligations requires the landlord to notify a rent increase, and any other unilateral change to the tenant's disadvantage, on an official form approved by the canton. The form states the right to contest. Article 270b gives the tenant 30 days from receipt to apply to the conciliation authority. Without a contest in time, the increase stands. The amount may still be unfair under articles 269 and 269a CO.
Form and time limit
An ordinary letter does not replace the form. The 30-day period is a forfeiture period. The authority is cantonal. The federal text is on Fedlex.
